Where to get Malaria tablets instead of shots? And how much do they cost? at April 30, 2016, 8:39 p.m.

I need to fly to a country that requires to get protected against Malaria. I'm not too familiar about Malaria vaccination, but I would rather get tablets instead of shots. And how much do they cost?

The Travel Health Centres of Department of Health provides pre-travel health consultation for outbound travellers. But if you just wish to have antimalarial medication, please seek service from private travel health clinic or hospital. By the way, there is no antimalarial vaccine for traveller.

One pill is called Doxycycline (antibiotic) $5hkd per tab (need to take 1-2 days before entering the Malarial region, the whole time you are there & then 28 days afterwards) It is the cheaper option but need to take for longer & does have more side effects including sun sensitivity & not always effective in all areas Available with the clinic Neo Health: https://topdoc.hk/en/doctor/profile/francois-fong/

The other pill is Malarone which is $114hkd per tab (need to take 1-2 days before entering the Malarial region, the whole time you are there & then 7 days afterwards) so can work out quite expensive Plus consultation fee
